Letter of Certification

  • A letter of certification is an official document issued by the University which certifies the qualification(s) awarded to a graduate or the student status. The most frequent requests for certification are of the following categories. Please refer to this page for the samples of the standard letter of certification.

Applicable to Current Students (LC1-7 refer to sample documents)
    1. For certifying the student status (LC1)
    2. For certifying the expected graduation term (LC2)
    3. To HKSAR Immigration Department for extension of student visa (LC3)
    4. For certifying the medium of instruction of the University# (LC4)
    5. For certifying the student status to be presented in Chinese (LC5)
    6. For certifying the completion of all graduation requirements (for final term students after release of grades) (LC6)
    7. For certifying the class of honours after graduation assessment is completed (LC7)

Applicable to Graduates (LG1-3 refer to sample documents)
    1. For certifying the graduate status (LG1)
    2. For certifying the medium of instruction of the University# (LG2)
    3. For certifying the graduate status to be presented in Chinese (LG3)
    4. As CUHK is a bilingual university, the letter of certification will certify, in general, that courses were taught in English and/or Chinese (except cases on the contrary).
  • Applicants should indicate clearly their purpose in the application by selecting the appropriate purpose or inputting the relevant sample no. (e.g. LC3) in the purpose section. For applying for the above standard letters of certification like the samples shown, the normal processing time is 3-5 working days. If applicants need to request for letters other than the standard ones, or certification for other specific purposes, they can only be dealt on a factual ground and will need longer processing time (around 10 working days depending on situation). The University cannot, however, certify personal and academic information not on the student records.
